Our Research & Development department has succeeded in replacing metal in several applications such as trucks side fairing support, automotive air duct mounting brackets and outboard engines covers. We managed to simplify the design, reducing the number of parts and allowing the molding of one single plastic applications, with no need of assembling and post treatment procedure. The final parts are lighter while mechanical properties are retained.

First trial with Standard PA66
After exposure @ 70C and 62% RH (ISO 1110), the specimen had softrened and distorted. The tensile modulus properties deterioraited by over 20%; the tensile stress @break was reduced by over 25%.

OUR SOLUTIONS
Our DOMAMID® XS, designed for strength and stiffness, minimum warpage and optimal processing, has already replaced metal applications in the under-the-bonnet segment. By substituting aluminium with DOMAMID® XS, you can achieve weight savings of up to 40% without compromising on strength.
DOMAMID® HCE is a product family designed especially for gas moulding and for those applications requiring painting or chrome plating. These materials are polyamide 6 based compounds, glass fiber reinforced, with a partially aromatic PA matrix.
Another unique material for lightweight applications is ECONAMID® AIR, a carbon fibre-reinforced PA6 compound that is 100% recycled (base and filler). ECONAMID® AIR boasts high stiffness at low density plus electrical conductivity and improved tribological properties.
DOMO’s range of light engineering materials also includes DOMOTAPE™ – composite sheets that combine strong fibres with the strength and versatility of polyamide. DOMOTAPE™ can be used as a single reinforcing sheet or in a combination of multiple angled layers.
