The chemical site in Leuna, Germany, celebrates its 100th anniversary in the presence of Chancellor Angela Merkel

Since 1916 the name Leuna stands for product and process developments of the highest international standards. During the past 25 years more than 6 billion euros have been invested in the site. DOMO Caproleuna GmbH by itself has invested 650 Mio Euro during the last 21 years at the site in Leuna.

Leuna site, a rich history and a bright future
Dr. Christof Günther, Managing Director InfraLeuna GmbH, opened the ceremony and introduced speeches by Dr. Reiner Haseloff, Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt and Michael Vassiliadis, Chairman of the Mining, Chemical and Energy Union. Keynote speaker was Dr. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. All speakers stressed the rich history and the bright future of this important chemical site.

DOMO Chemicals continues to invest in the Leuna site
"The acquisition of the Caprolactam business in Leuna in 1994 was a real milestone in the successful history of our company", says Jan De Clerck, President of DOMO Chemicals. The DOMO Group built new production facilities, e.g. for sulfuric acid and hydroxyl ammonium (HAS). The former carpet and yarn manufacturer from Belgium developed rapidly into a global polyamide 6 specialist for applications in the field of textile, BCF, industrial yarns and Engineering Plastics.

Today DOMO Chemicals invests in a state-of-the-art BOPA (biaxially oriented polyamide) nylon film plant at the Leuna site. The new plant is expected to be fully operational by January 2017 and will create 35 new jobs.
