TECHNYL® SHAPE - A new dimension in polyamide form and function for extrusion and blow molding technologies

TECHNYL® SHAPE is a new line of polyamide solutions for the manufacture of hollow body plastic components and tubes, which is ideal for extrusion and blow molding applications. The market for fluid carrying systems is growing rapidly, and TECHNYL® SHAPE provides industry-leading polymer solutions to meet the challenges of transporting air, fluids, glycol, fuel, refrigerants and dielectric fluids for battery immersion cooling for electric vehicles (EVs).

This extensive product line includes specific heat stabilized and hydrolysis resistant materials ideal for automotive and motorbike pipes and tanks for instance. It also comprises a family of dedicated materials for blow molding especially for fuel cell applications. And, it includes plasticized solutions for multilayer cables as well as high and medium viscosity materials ideal for extrusion of many industrial and consumer goods applications like thermal barriers for windows.

In addition, there is a partially bio-sourced TECHNYL® SHAPE grade with exceptional fluid barrier properties, giving manufacturers an ideal solution for creating parts highly resistant to zinc chloride (salt), while contributing to the use of more sustainable raw materials.

Key benefits of TECHNYL® SHAPE polyamides

  • Lower cost and weight compared to aluminum and rubber
  • High burst resistance
  • Superior multilayer solutions
  • Enhanced hydrolysis resistance
  • Excellent performance for laser welding and thermoforming
  • High temperature performance for certain grades
  • Bio-sourced grades available
  •  Chemical resistance to oil, salt, steam, hot water, and fuel
  •  Suitable for blow molding, extrusion and injection molding
  •  As a coating material, prevents corrosion and oxidation
  •  Cost-effective alternative to long-chain polyamides, such as PA12
  •  Complete color sampling

Meeting customer needs for extrusion and blow molding applications

With an attractive cost/performance ratio compared to metal or alternative plastics, TECHNYL® SHAPE is ideal for creating complex shapes in the industrial and consumer goods industries. It is also well-suited for glycol and refrigerant lines for automotive and home applications, as well as dielectric fluids for EV batteries, which is becoming an increasingly important market for the e-mobility future.

TECHNYL® SHAPE grades for blow molding, such as TECHNYL® SHAPE C 548B BK and TECHNYL® SHAPE C 550BCR BK, offer fast and effective solutions for manufacturers of fuel tanks, type 4 hydrogen tank liners, tubes and air ducts for automotive and aerospace applications, as well as for tanks in agriculture and gardening sectors.

TECHNYL® SHAPE materials are also compatible with vibration and laser welding, as well as for overmolding in hybrid applications.

Why you should choose TECHNYL® SHAPE

  • TECHNYL® SHAPE C 548B BK and TECHNYL® SHAPE C 550BCR = 14 < 46 mL/(h.L) meet the ECE H2 permeability standard for a typical tank design
  • TECHNYL® SHAPE C 548B and TECHNYL® SHAPE C 550BCR exhibit excellent fuel barrier properties

Key applications of TECHNYL® SHAPE

DOMO's TECHNYL® Engineered Materials have an excellent track record for fuel tanks. TECHNYL® SHAPE grades C 548B and C 550BCR are ideal for the smaller fuel tanks increasingly demanded for hybrid vehicles, as well as for CNG and hydrogen high pressure storage tanks, thanks to their superior barrier properties.

TECHNYL® A 548B2 V15 BLACK 23N (PA66 GF15) is a unique solution for blow molding. The glass fiber improves the mechanical properties, providing more rigidity at high temperatures for products like turbo air ducts. Thanks to the glass fiber, this solution allows for an increased heat deflection temperature, from approximately 80°C up to 200°C, which is required in turbo air duct applications. The tensile modulus is also six times higher in conditioned state than an unfilled material.

TECHNYL® SHAPE C 406P3 NC is a plasticized extrusion formulation ideal for applications such as flexible plastic pipes, hoses and tubes for brake and clutch systems, compressed air tubes, fuel lines and other systems where robust, leak-free performance is an absolute requirement. Through multilayering to optimize cost, different grades can be utilized with compatible materials to ensure an effective fluid barrier, superior mechanical properties and resistance to the outside environment.
